Bed sores is one of the most common problems of elderly people but there are also many people those who are unable to move due to several reasons such as comma, sickness often face this problem. Lying on the bed or sitting in a wheelchair for a prolonged period is responsible for cutting off the blood supply to the skin which results in severe bed sores. Continuous pressure on the same part of the skin for minimal time period is good enough to start off this aggravating sore.
Bed sores are also found in people those who are hospitalized, in nursing homes or being treated at home. Bed sore, in its initial phase is very painful, often red in color and finally turns purple. Proper treatment is very essential in order to avoid further infection because untreated bed sores can cause infection in bones and other nearby muscles. Some common areas of infection are spine, hips, heels, lower back, elbows, buttocks and shoulder blades.
Causes of bed sores:
- Shearing and Friction.
- Moist skin, due to perspiration or from bed wetting. Moisture:
- Lack of Movement.
- Age factor.
- Lack of proper nutrition.
Treatment for bed sores:
Here are some preventive measures for bed sores treatment:
- Skin massage is essential in order to avoid cold sores and to enhance blood circulation.
- Try to keep your skin dry.
- Try to apply vitamin E oil all over the body and make a healthy diet menu by adding food high fiber foods are items that are rich in vitamins like A, B, C, E and zinc
- In order to remove .poison from the wound, pour sugar and honey poultice on the wound.
- You can also apply zinc oxide ointment, aloe vera, wheat germ oil or comfrey.
- Make a paste by mixing powdered comfrey leaves + slippery elm in equal parts. Put this paste on piece of clean treated cloth and tie it to the sore overnight, for disinfect the area, sprinkle goldenseal or echinacea powder. Later cover it with cotton.
- Try to wash your sores at least two to four times a day by making a concoction of witch hazel and myrrh/turmeric root/goldenseal.
