Alternative treatment for psoriasis
Psoriasis is one of the most common type of chronic skin diseases, characterized by red, thick, silvery, scaled patches of skin. Both male and female are equally prone to this disease and is, rare in infancy and old age.
Note: - Psoriasis is not contagious.
Symptoms of psoriasis:
- Red and irritated skin.
- Itching.
- The disease may also affect the underarm and genital areas.
- The lesions of psoriasis are always dry and rarely become infected.
- Scaly plaques on the scalp
Causes of psoriasis:
- Heredity.
- Family history.
- Skin injuries in the form of cuts, burns and minor abrasions.
- Changes in the seasons.
- Physical and emotional stress
- Medication.
- Metabolism related abnormalities.
Alternative treatment for psoriasis:
- In order to start alternative treatment for psoriasis, make a body cleansing plan by starting a juice fast for about 7 days. Include juice of fruits and vegetables such as carrots, beats, cucumbers and grapes. Avoid citrus fruit juice.
- The warm water enema should be used daily to cleanse the bowels during the fast.
- After completing your juice fast adopt a well balanced diet of After the juice fast, the patient should adopt the diet of (i) seeds, nuts and grains, (ii) vegetables and (iii) fruits, with emphasis on raw seeds and nuts, especially seasame seeds, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds and plenty of organically grown raw vegetables and fruits.
- Try to avoid animal fat, refined foods, processed foods, eggs, butter, milk, hydrogenated fats or white sugar, tea, coffee, and alcohol.
- Taking therapeutic doses of vitamin E (200 to 800 I.U.) is also beneficial in the alternative treatment for psoriasis. Vitamin E helps reduce itching and scabs.
- Lecithin also helpful in psoriasis treatment. Take 6 to 9 lecithin capsules a day - 2 capsules before or after each meal. In the form of granules, it may be taken 4 tablespoonfuls daily for two months. It may thereafter be reduced to 2 tablespoons.
- Do not use soaps and avoid bathing frequently.
- The hot Epsom salts bath has proved valuable in psoriasis. Try to take 3 baths a week. The number of baths thereafter may be reduced to two weekly and finally to one.
- Another effective alternative treatment for psoriasis is the use of Cabbage leaves in the form of compresses. The thickest and greenest outer leaves are most effective for use as compresses. They should be thoroughly washed in warm water and dried with a towel. The leaves should be made flat, soft and smooth by rolling them with a rolling pin after removing the thick veins. They should be warmed and then applied smoothly to the affected part in an overlapping manner. A pad of soft wooden cloth should be put over it. The whole compress should then be secured with an elastic bandage.
- Make a regular exercise plan by including deep breathing exercises.
- Try to live stress free and have plenty of sleep.
