Alternative treatment for lice
Head lice problem is very common around the world especially for the school-aged children. Lice are small insects and are well known for causing itching and irritation. There are 3 types of lice i.e. head lice, body lice and pubic lice.
Symptoms of Lice:
- Continuous scratching of the scalp (and more on certain areas like behind the ears and base of the neck).
- Seeing adult lice or nits (eggs) in the hair, on a brush, or in the tub after a bath or shower
Causes of lice:
- Head lice are more common in girls likely because girls are more likely to have close contact during play.
- Head-to-head contact.
- Sharing personal things such as combs, hats, brushes, hooded sweatshirts, head scarves, etc.
Alternative treatment for lice:
- The first advice from “alternative treatment for lice” is to educate your child about lice prevention and tell them to avoid sharing articles of clothing, combs, and brushes.
- Get into the habit of inspecting school-aged children once a week for lice. The early prevention is the best treatment.
- Use a natural shampoo and conditioner containing tea tree or the essential oils of marjoram, rosemary and eucalyptus in order to prevent further outbreak.
- Lavender oil is also beneficial in lice control, make a mixture of water and lavender oil and spray on the base of the neck and hair each day.
- Try to change bedding on a regular basis and wash in hot water. Dry in a hot dryer for at least 45 minutes.
- Apply a combination of mayonnaise, petroleum jelly, olive oil, or thick hair gel. Applying these thick products to the hair and scalp and leaving on overnight will theoretically reduce the attachment of lice, but there are no clinical studies supporting the efficacy of these products.
- Another alternative treatment for lice is to wash your hair with vinegar.
- Apply coconut hair to your head after washing your hair.
- Mix some drops of tea tree oil in to your shampoo bottle and use it regularly.
- Make a mixture by mixing lemon and butter and apply this mixture on your head for at least 15 to 20 minutes.
