Alternative Treatment for acne
There are many acne suffers turning toward alternative treatment methods for treating their acne problem. The two main reasons for choosing alternative treatment methods is that such treatments are free from side effects unlike with medication used to treat acne. Secondly there are lot of people who have been unsuccessful with the various over the counter (OTC) and prescription options.
This is true that these types of alternative treatment methods are not regulated by the FDA and hence you will not receive much guidance from medical doctors on their effective use.
There are many herbs available which are commonly used to balance sex hormones (estrogen) and also help balance androgen levels, in case of teenage girls and women. Androgen is believed to trigger excess sebum production, which can cause hair follicles to clog and acne to form. Some common examples of these types of herbs are:
- Chaste berry
- Evening primrose
- Black cohosh
- Red clover
- Dong quai
- Wild yam
Also, there are many herbs, used to treat or reduce inflammation and infection can be used for both male and female acne suffers and also used well for killing acne causing bacteria. Some common examples of these herbs are:
- Echinacea
- Licorice
- Burdock
- Dandelion root
Vitamin B5 or pantothenic acid is also used to treat acne. Vitamin B5 helps reduce excess sebum production (the root cause of clogged hair follicles leading to acne).
Some topical treatments are also used as an alternative treatment for acne, such as tea tree oil and seaweed, which are both known for their powerful antibacterial properties which are used effectively on acne inflammations.
Stress is also responsible for causing acne. So anything you can do to alleviate stress will help. Therefore, go for yoga, meditation, aromatherapy, acupuncture, and meditation.
